When are the Tamil Nadu local body elections?

What we found
The home page of the Tamil Nadu State Election Commission listed no election schedule or announcement (checked 2 October 2026). A report in Outlook on 28 July 2026 said the civic polls were likely to be held in early 2027, after the government extended the term of the Seventh State Finance Commission to 31 December 2026; it gave no date.
Who runs these elections
Village panchayats, panchayat unions, district panchayats, town panchayats, municipalities and corporations are elected in polls run by the State Election Commission, not by the Election Commission of India that runs Assembly and Lok Sabha polls (Articles 243K and 243ZA of the Constitution). Their terms are five years (Articles 243E and 243U).
When the last ones were held
The urban bodies (corporations, municipalities and town panchayats) voted on 19 February 2022. The rural bodies voted in December 2019 and October 2021, according to the same Outlook report.
