* April 2026 figures are for Chengalpattu district (shown beside Madurantakam) and Tiruppur district (shown beside Dharapuram), not for the seats themselves. Hourly figures were not published seat by seat. The close-of-poll row is each district's final turnout.

April 2026 hourly figures are from news reports on polling day (Daily Thanthi, Nakkheeran, Tamil Janam, Deccan Chronicle, India TV, ETV Bharat). The by-election figures are from news reports of the polling-day turnout. The Election Commission's own figures are the official ones.

How to read the turnout curve

How April voters paced the day. For the April 2026 election the district figures were: Chengalpattu district (where Madurantakam lies) reached 17.36% at 9 AM, 37.17% at 11 AM, 56.28% at 1 PM, 69.46% at 3 PM, 82.41% at 5 PM and finished at 85.46%. Tiruppur district (Dharapuram) went 20.38%, 42.45%, 62.97%, 75.38%, 86.33% and 88.59%. By 11 AM about 43% (Chengalpattu) and 48% (Tiruppur) of the final turnout had already voted, and by 5 PM about 96% and 97%.

Why these are district numbers. The Election Commission did not publish hour-by-hour figures seat by seat in April that we could find, only for districts and the state. A district includes many seats, so a single seat's curve can sit above or below it. A gap of a point or two at 9 AM means little; the shape of the curve over the day matters more.

April's final turnout in the two seats was 93.4% in Madurantakam and 89.9% in Dharapuram, as shown on our seat pages. By-elections usually see lower turnout than a general election, so the comparison to watch is how close each hour comes to April's pace.
