How to download your voter ID (e-EPIC) and check its status

Short answer

Download your digital voter ID (e-EPIC) on voters.eci.gov.in or in the ECINET app: choose Download e-EPIC, enter your EPIC number and verify the OTP. Helpline: 1950.

Checked 11 October 2026. ECI’s e-EPIC FAQ, the Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer’s site and public FAQ, and Press Information Bureau notes of 4 May 2025, 4 November 2025 and 22 January 2026.

Key line: The card and the roll are two different things. You can download the card again at any time; if your name is not on the roll, only Form 6 fixes that.

Steps to download the e-EPIC
  1. Open voters.eci.gov.in (or the ECINET app) and log in; register first if you are new.
  2. Choose Download e-EPIC.
  3. Enter your EPIC number, printed on the card, or the reference number of your Form 6.
  4. Verify the OTP sent to the mobile number linked to your voter record, then download the PDF.
  • No EPIC number? Find your name at electoralsearch.eci.gov.in and note the number.
  • Mobile number not linked? Complete e-KYC, a face check on a phone or webcam camera, and update the number. If it fails, ECI’s FAQ says to go to the Electoral Registration Officer’s office with a photo ID.
  • Keeping it: the e-EPIC is a PDF of about 250 KB; ECI’s FAQ says you can keep it on your phone, add it to DigiLocker or print it.

These steps follow ECI’s own e-EPIC FAQ (text of 2021) and PIB’s note of 22 January 2026 on ECINET. Menu names may differ from these; if a step does not match, call 1950.

Check status, your name and your booth
  • Application status: Track Your Application in ECINET or on voters.eci.gov.in, with the reference number you got when you submitted Form 6, 7 or 8. The Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer’s site has an Application Tracking link too.
  • Is my name on the roll? A different check: search by EPIC number, your details or mobile number. Step by step.
  • Your booth: the search result shows your part number and polling station. On this site: find your polling station · booth-wise results · what to carry to vote.
Which form for which change
  • Form 6: join the roll for the first time, or get a missing name added. Someone turning 18 on 1 January, 1 April, 1 July or 1 October can apply ahead.
  • Form 7: object to a name on the roll, or ask for an entry to be deleted. An elector of the same Assembly constituency can file it.
  • Form 8: report a change of residence, correct an entry, replace your EPIC, or mark a person with disability.
  • File online at voters.eci.gov.in or in ECINET, or give the form to your Booth Level Officer (BLO) or the Electoral Registration Officer’s office.
Helplines and official links
  • 1950: the Election Commission’s voter helpline. From a mobile phone, dial your STD code before it (ECI’s instruction of 4 November 2025).
  • 1800 4252 1950 and ceo@tn.gov.in: the Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer’s toll-free number and e-mail, as listed on its home page.
  • Book-a-call with BLO: ECINET lets you ask your Booth Level Officer to call you.
  • voters.eci.gov.in · electoralsearch.eci.gov.in · elections.tn.gov.in · eci.gov.in. On 4 May 2025 ECI said ECINET would take over the Voter Helpline app; its app-store links are on the voter help page.

Questions

How do I check my voter ID status?

Use Track Your Application in ECINET or on voters.eci.gov.in with the reference number of your Form 6, 7 or 8. To check whether your name is on the roll, search at electoralsearch.eci.gov.in.

I do not know my EPIC number. What do I do?

Search for your name at electoralsearch.eci.gov.in by your details or mobile number, note the EPIC number in the result, then use it to download the e-EPIC.

Is my name on the voter list if I have a voter ID card?

Not always. The card is an identity document; voting needs your name on the electoral roll. Search the roll, and if the name is missing apply with Form 6.
