Who and since when
Udhayanidhi Stalin (DMK) is MLA for Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni in Chennai. The DMK Legislature Party chose him as its leader on 7 May 2026, and the DMK named him Leader of the Opposition on 10 May 2026, hours after the new Chief Minister's oath. The DMK won 59 seats in April 2026, the most of any party outside the government.
Why not M. K. Stalin
M. K. Stalin, the DMK's president and the Chief Minister until 10 May 2026, lost his Kolathur seat to TVK's V. S. Babu on 4 May 2026, so he is not a member of the Assembly.
