About Kancheepuram
Kancheepuram is one of the seven moksha-puri cities of Hindu tradition and the seat of the Kanchi Kamakoti math, with a constituency that takes in the Ekambareswarar, Kamakshi Amman, Varadaraja Perumal and Kailasanathar temples. Beyond the temple economy, Kanchipuram silk weaving employs tens of thousands of households across Pillaiyarpalayam and Sengunthapuram. The town also hosts a SIPCOT industrial cluster, the Kanchi University, and serves as the district headquarters.
Silk, Shiva and the Kamakshi shrine
Do the four-temple circuit — Ekambareswarar, Kamakshi Amman, Varadaraja Perumal and Kailasanathar — across one full day, then walk the Pillaiyarpalayam loom lanes to watch silk warps being readied. Stop at the old Saravana Bhavan or Sri Krishna Sweets for adhirasam and pal kova before driving back.
