About Athoor
Athoor is a rural-urban mixed constituency in Dindigul district, taking in Athoor town, parts of Dindigul city's outskirts and the Sirumalai foothills. The seat is the political base of I. Periasamy, DMK's senior cooperation minister, who has now won four consecutive elections here from 2011 to 2026. Sirumalai's hill banana groves, the Kamarajar Sagar reservoir at Sothuparai feed line and a strong handloom cluster shape the local economy. Polled votes touched 234,000 this cycle in a 16-candidate field. Athoor sits within the Dindigul Lok Sabha constituency.
Athoor travel
Athoor opens onto the Sirumalai hill range, famous for its small-fruited Sirumalai banana and viewpoints over the Cumbum valley. The drive ties into Dindigul city's rock fort and the locks-and-locks bazaar that gave the town its industrial nickname.
